Jaume Plensa i Suñé (born 23 August 1955) is a Spanish visual artist, sculptor, designer and engraver. He has also created opera sets, video projections and acoustic installations.
Along with the “Utopia” display in the Meijer Gardens, Grand Rapids, Michigan, there is a sculpture downtown.

yes, cool. but is it just me or is this kinda ugly?
ugly isn’t near the top of the list of things I think about when looking at that statue, but I will say that similar sculptures and paintings in Middle Eastern language are far more pleasing to look at because Western alphabets are so blocky and rigid.
whereas i can look at paintings of Arabic letters all day:
