This CRASH is NOT a “Game”… It’s (Shopping). And the reasons why our beloved hobby is riddled with GREED.

Yeah as much as I dislike the business model of microtransactions in modern games, and fortnite is the most popular and blatant example, they’re also pretty much the gold standard in how it should be done.

I’m pretty emotionally ambivalent towards it. I both dislike and respect it at the same time.

Whats “Free” when the point of said (APP) is locked behind pay-walls!? Modern day “gaming” sucks, paying for content that was once earned through gameplay is NOT Rewarding nor Gaming, it’s essentially Online Shopping. Fortnite is a Freemium Application which utilizes (In app purchase mechanics/ psychology) to lure in ‘Payer$’. Particularly the Youth which are more impressionable.

Why don’t you do some research on your beloved Applications:

The psychology of in-app purchase… South Park: season 18 Episode 6 (Freemium isn’t Free)… HOW microtransactions ruined gaming… HOW Season Passes ruined gaming… HOW Battle Passes ruined gaming… HOW Live Services ruined gaming

Battle passes are replacing loot boxes, but they’re not necessarily a better deal:

Skins are not the point of fortnite. What?

If youth are spending too much money on fortnite, that’s their parent’s failure to control them, quite honestly.

Battle passes are ass but fortnite’s system of finances is far more ethical than most games

“Skins are not the point of fortnite” You’re absolutely right. The point of fortnite is to make (BILLIONS) a Season and 37 Seasons later @ 40 BILLION DOLLARS and counting gives these EVIL Companies no incentive to produce legitimate products.

Gone are the days were Companies actually made (Good Honest Video Games). Now companies hire behavioralists/psychologists to manipulate kids and casuals alike into spending, Not Playing. Not only that Fortnite extorts their payer base as well, which lead to a Lawsuit by the FTC:

(Epic had to pay more than half a billion dollars for criminal behaviour)

            https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2022/12/fortnite-video-game-maker-epic-games-pay-more-half-billion-dollars-over-ftc-allegations

(privacy violations, dark patterns and unwanted charges, especially targeting kids and teens).

So (Not So) Epic “Games” are not “epic” at all! And companies like this are a poor representation of what our Gaming Hobby use to be. These are no longer Video Games. They’re Applications designed to Rob & psychologically manipulate the unsuspecting youth/ casuals into a (ENDLESS Pit Of PROFIT). Don’t shoot the messenger all of this is well documented… Look it up!

“Fortnite generates significant revenue each season, with estimates suggesting it can earn hundreds of millions of dollars monthly, contributing to over $20 billion in revenue for 2022 alone.”
