When Hurricane Helene forced a rural Tennessee hospital into a dramatic rooftop evacuation last September, its top executive vowed to rebuild the damaged facility as he watched the rescue unfold from a washed-out bridge.
That promise is now in peril because of the [Trump’s] One Big Beautiful Bill.
I was really surprised to learn that the fairly new hospital that was built in my parents’ home town is on the list of most likely to close in my home state due to medicaid cuts. It was just completed maybe 10 - 12 years ago, I think. The bulk of people in its service area will face an additional 20+ minute ambulance ride to the next closest hospital if it closes.
I’ll give you 3 guesses which party that county voted for pretty much straight ticket.
“Our lives were so much better when Trump was president” is what I heard back in 2024.
And the same people will no doubt blame Biden for the closure of that hospital and everything else President Epstein is doing.
You can’t fix ignorance and apathy unless the people want to fix it themselves.
Strike that. Just keep moving hospitals farther and farther away, and the problem will eventually resolve itself.
It will kill medically vulnerable people is what you mean. You’re just hoping most of them are also Republicans based on demographics.
It’s a rural town, which means mostly Republicans.
I hope they all suddenly have an epiphany, take up an interest in current affairs, and vote against Republicans.
I expect they will blame Democrats.
Republicans, and some Democrats, and kids who can’t vote either way. But all worth it if the problem “solves itself” (it won’t, shitty people can have good health).
Take your self righteousness elsewhere. I didn’t vote to harm them. Their voters did. If you want to blame someone, blame them. I’m pro-hospitals (as if I need to say it) and Medicare for all, but elections have consequences and this is one.
