    That’s called irony.

      Isn’t it only ironic if the event that happens is opposite of what is expected? He advocated for guns on campus knowing that it would result in shootings and deaths, he just didn’t expect it would happen to him.

        There are several types of irony (not sure if this just applies to literature.)

        Verbal irony is when a person says one thing but means the opposite;

        Situational irony is when the reverse of what is expected happens; and

        Dramatic irony is when the audience knows something that the characters do not.

        This falls under dramatic irony imo
