It’s not Charlie’s fault that there are tens or hundreds of millions of Americans that, like you, endorse political violence, and are eager to be told that it’s okay, it’s righteous, it’s the way forward. He didn’t create the audience, he merely exploited it for personal gain. You’re making him into some kind of whipping boy so that you don’t have to face the reality of the situation. And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
