Always remember that one internet dweller with 10 accounts can consistently manipulate downvotes to change perspective of certain opinions.

    Well, that‘s more or less the way I used to do it. And in my experience the up and down numbers do make sense that way. Only, at one point I couldn‘t bring myself to „like“ a post about starving kids to death anymore. Contributor popularity contest be damned. The UI offers a controversial ranking beside the hot setting, after all.

    • I like to frame it as less a “popularity contest” and more the higher the upvotes the more visibility it will get. Surely visibility of things is how we spread awareness?

      Although, I would say not here as this place has become pretty echo chamber like.
