I’d like to read, USA has made a contract to deliver a 5 billion worth of fishing rods and hooks. I think it’d make a nice change of pace.
Ah so the same regions the US and Australia regularly have drills in under the guise of “freedom of navigation.” Surely they wouldn’t be hypocrites about that would they?

Hey, does Mongolia have a right to sovereignty?
Because the government of Taiwan claims it as theirs.
Not since 3 October 2002 (81 years after Mongolia’s first declaration of independence)
You’re on Lemmy.ml.
Either way, both Australia and the US recognize One China, and that the PRC is the legitimate government of China. The ROC, despite claiming to be the legitimate government of China, isn’t recognized as such by either the US or Australia.
neither US or Australia is claiming Taiwan is a part of their country
need a fact check here
Ah, .world account
Make sure to check RoC land claims. 👍🏾
Only in china the peoples democracy is so confident, that it allows millitarized separatist to pretend they are government of an island which they invaded and settled.
If China grabbed Taiwan, Trump’s response would be: “So how much are you going to pay me to not care?” And they’ll pay him, and he’ll be fine with it, and say “I created peace between them, when Biden, Obama, and Clinton all wanted to keep spending all that money to keep them separated. I should get all the money that I saved.”
No? The US Empire has huge millitant footholds in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea precisely to pressure the PRC. If they pull out of Taiwan, they’d concede that China is no longer capable of being resisted by the US Empire.
You think long-standing military strategy would mean anything to Trump? If it was in HIS personal self-interest to sell out America’s, and the world’s, security, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second.
Trump would happily do that if they give him a big enough bribe. Qatar have him a plane, so that’s the baseline. Maybe China can trade him a yacht for Taiwan.
It would be good for the world if the US Empire removed all of its overseas millitary bases, though. Trump is allowed by the imperialists in the US Empire to do what he can to try to save it, hence why the US Empire shifted from Eastern Europe as a focus to latin America with their adventures in Venezuela. The idea is to pivot to war with China, or to spark a potential proxy war, before China gets too far ahead to contest. I’d argue that we are already at that point, but regardless, the US Empire maintains these millitary bases for economic reasons, not out of a sense of security.
Valid, although both things can be true.
Kinda. The US Empire is a dictatorship of capital, Trump has a lot he can do but he can’t unilaterally destroy the main levers the US Empire keeps to maintain imperialism without capitalist consent and support.
He also can’t just tear down a third of the White House on a whim, but here we are.
If he tells China, “Hey, thanks for the yacht, and the permission to build a Trump Tower in Taiwan, don’t worry about anything,” and then sits back and lets them invade China, without calling on our military to defend them, what would anyone do?
Schmuck Schumer would release a stern statement, a few people would grumble, but NOBODY in either party would do ANYTHING about it, except whine.
The entire premise of China “invading” Taiwan is false. Taiwan is Chinese, and the PRC is the legitimate government of China, not the ROC. As such, the PRC is just waiting for the seperatist government to stand down, despite the US empire wanting a hot war. This is a hot war the US establishment desperately wants, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell they’d trade that for a tower.
He also can’t just tear down a third of the White House on a whim, but here we are.
Critical support!
He also can’t just tear down a third of the White House on a whim, but here we are.
Tearing down the White House doesn’t hurt capital. When we say that Trump can’t just do anything they want, we’re not talking about legality. You’re right, it’s very clear that Trump’s regime disregards legal issues. They have strong institutional power over the writing, judgement and enforcement of law.
We’re talking about pleasing those who give Trump power - the upper echelon of the rich, the owning class. Trump’s regime needs mass media for messaging (think of social media and news owners like Zuck, Musk, Bezos, Murdoch, … ), it needs technology (add Thiel, Ellison, … ), and obviously it needs money.
If Trump and friends turn those supporters against him, that’s a very real issue that would lose them material power. They’re pressured into compromising or conforming to the wants of those supporters, so that they continue giving power to the regime. This is what people mean by a “dictatorship of capital” - those with huge amounts of capital dictate the country.
Damn those are some massive fucking boats
Taiwan “Hey Ukraine, got a few of those navel drones for us?”
Ukraine has shown that a traditional naval power is pretty weak.
Acually Taiwan: “Hey Israel, nice genocide can we fund it?”

lol yeah cuz Ukraine is doing great right now, huh?
Taiwan is likely looking at how the West used Ukraine and seeing its own future if it comes to war, and is not excited for it.
Do you think China doesn’t have drones? They produce a huge amount of them, and have defenses against drones.
Sure, the war on Ukraine and a possible war on Taiwan have so much in common, you are such an expert of warfare, they just need drones.
Why would they need to ask Ukraine for them when Taiwan has much more mature electronics manufacturing sectors than Ukraine?
There are other bits to making marine drones than just electronics.
Tomahawks are “just electronics” too and I’m pretty sure Taiwan can’t mass-produce those
