re: driver’s license to walk to store - there are already enough examples in recent history in the US of pretty much exactly this situation happening.
example: the civil rights lawyer (YT), video “CVS employee arrested waiting on bench”. guy got off work, sat on the bench outside the store waiting for his Lyft, wouldn’t provide ID, got arrested.
yeah, in that case, the response to it has not been entirely unreasonable. my point is that it even happened in the first place. but yes, the system does seem to be somewhat working for that poor guy.

I will say, at least in that specific case, the guy is likely to get a payout for his civil rights being violated.
You can’t really say the same about ICE violating your rights. And the chances of that are essentially -10% if you’re an undocumented immigrant.
