It’s sad and true. Reminds me of that scene in Enemy at the Gates where they shoot the communication cable to lay a trap, and the Germans send out a repairman they know will get shot so they can get a fix on the snipers. Except in this cartoonishly-villainous timeline, that repairman is wearing brightly colored clothes and a helmet made of upholstery foam. They’re on a suicide mission as canon fodder to start the next phase of this shit.
