Is it really? How many people are actually gonna quit Discord instead of grumble angrily about it? Look at what happened with Reddit. They did something users don’t like, the users got angry and protested, most of them accepted the changes and stayed.
Our small friend group server if about 50 people spread across the country immediately started talking about alternatives. People are sick of the constant enshitification. They even brought up wanting one of us to self host whatever we move to so we can prevent this shit.
They’re mostly non-tech folks too, they just put up with my open source/privacy convos occasionally 😁
I have not seen a single person say this is a good idea. Almost everywhere I’ve seen everyone hates this. From Reddit, to Twitter, to Bluesky, and Lemmy. It’s pretty much universally hated everywhere you go.
