I’d like the ability to block users when I stumble over an imbecile while browsing, but I still need to see the blocked user’s comments in groups that I moderate.

At present, user blocks are absolute, and don’t take moderation into consideration. This means, since I moderate a group, I can’t block users. If I do, and they later post to the group I moderate, I won’t see their posts or comments.

Most Americans are, as you estimate, center-to-right, but that’s because America has no political party of the left, so lefty ideas are simply unknown to 90% of us. When genuine leftyism is spoken aloud by candidates who actually believe what they’re saying — AOC or Sanders and very few others — it’s very nearly undefeated.

America is center-to-right the same way someone who’s never eaten kiwi fruit thinks kiwi fruit looks icky. Give 'em a bite of kiwi, though, and they’ll be kooky for kiwi for life.

What is it lacking?

Medium has a paywall, which tends to keep me away, but Substack pays Nazis to post there. This makes the Substack platform distasteful for those who dislike fascists.

It’s not for me, but it sounds cool for those active on both sites.

This article is well-argued, well-written, and moot. Rule of law has been replaced with rule of Trump, and it’s downright quaint to pretend that precedent, illegality, or the constitution are still in play.

I tried it, but gave up months ago. Decentralization is what we’re all about, but without a centralized index of what’s available, finding videos on PeerTube is more work than watching them is worth.

It’s like a light bulb reading these comments. I’ve barely touched social media, wondered why it’s of no interest to me, but suddenly I grok it. I prefer the intelligent conversation (and stupid takes too, like mine) of a forum like Lemmy, where there’s a much better IQ/batting average than ‘social media’.

Right on, dude. It would be refreshing to see right-wing arguments advocating a serious fact-based (instead of hate-based and/or lie-based) position on any issue. I’d still disagree, but I’d welcome that disagreement.

    OK, so there’s this wingnut Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Football) who’s angry that the military reimburses officers for travel expenses when they need to go out-of-state for an abortion. Until that rule’s changed, Tuberville has vowed to block all military promotions (who knew Senators had that power?) and now the Army, Navy and Marine Corps have no Senate-approved commanders in place.

    Other than how it screws over low-ranking officers, I really give no shits at all about Tuberville’s blockade. It makes him look like an idiot, and he is an idiot, and I’m pretty sure the Army, Navy and Marine Corps can do all their armying, navying, and marine corpsing without Senate-approved leadership.

    But man, I got a laugh out of that “aiding and abetting the Communists” crack.
