i mean tbh the value someone sees depends on their perspective and is inherently tied to agreement.
e.g. I would downvote anything I recognise as primarily genai content because I don’t see value in it. But I only don’t see value in it because I am against it morally and disagree with it.

I don’t think most big YouTubers care much about YouTube ad revenue these days, they make so much more money from audience manipulation (e.g. sponsor spots) so the current peertube system would be fine.
I honestly think the biggest current issues are that it costs a lot of money to host peertube because of the high resource requirements (storage costs are compounding as well) and that the network effect means that very few people will use it
it’s probably that they’re not willing to put in the effort to republish every video on peertube when the status quo works fine, or that they don’t know about peertube’s existence.
Louis Rossmann for example definitely cares about FOSS/Free ecosystems is a giant proponent of ad blockers, but doesn’t post on peertube.

It would work but I personally don’t think hosting a personal instance for the fediverse is that practical/safe given how dumb and harsh laws can be, when you don’t have an army of lawyers/strong public support

circlejerks for the software freedom spectrum however…
you can’t have decentralisation without federation, also iirc there’s problems with bluesky’s federation architecture so there’s syncing issues between instances
it shouldn’t have to be the responsibility of the admins to do this though
very much agree with the post about the politics lacking nuance, but I think it’s a problem with social media in general
the communities/echo chambers that form around instances probably amplify that though
only because there’s parts that are perpendicular to the ray from the observer
there really should be a better way of multiposting so that duplicate content is not actually shown to the user
