  • Well, the Area of the Russian Federation in Europe is 39% of the European landmass. This has nothing to do with the Asian part of Russia. The Russian Federation is about 1.7-1.8x the landmass of the European continent.

Still… I don’t really know how mostly empty tundra is really prevalent to the discussion.

And with a hundred million Russians living in the European part, that makes the largest ethnical group, considering the differences between the slavic ethnicities.

This is true, and I do wish there wasn’t an artificial constructed delineation between Russia and the rest of Europe. However, I don’t really know how western Europe is really meant to overcome this considering Russian cultural ideology is still being haunted by the specter of the Russian empire.

As someone who’s ethnically East asian, its always funny when I hear Russians consider themselves “The East”, when the only historical ties they have to the actual East is European styled imperialism.

Ethnical, Cultural and Historical divides are a poor and often arbitrary metric to justify modern Nations borders, both in joining or separating areas.

    100% agree.

  • Also Russian in its legitimate borders makes up almost half of the European continent.

Not sure if land mass is exactly prevalent in this, as most of Russia is just colonized portions of Asia.

When we are past this whole mess we need to stop thinking of the EU as “Europe” and the other half of the European continent as “not Europe”.

It takes two to tango… A lot of the modern ideas separating Russia from Europe was done as a way to validate Russian imperialism. This idea is being continued by people like Putin for the same reasons.

Also ethnically speaking Slavs are the largest ethnic group in Europe with about 300 Million people.

Yeah… But thinking of Slavs as a monoculture is really dated, and kinda goes against the way we classify ethnicities all together. East, West and Southern Slavs are separated by distinct cultural groups, religions, languages, and about 1500 years of history.

  • what do you suppose the Taliban would have done to those same people and more if the US had not pulled out when Trump told them we would?

I don’t really think slowing down a pull out a few weeks or even months would really upset the Taliban anymore than what we had already done, I mean we’ve been there for more than a decade.

The point would be that it would have given more time for people to make their way to the airbase, and for more than just a couple airplanes full of people evacuate.

The only reason the Taliban was able to capture Kabul so quickly is because they and the security forces knew that the US wasn’t providing any air cover.

  • Eh, I guess it’s a matter of opinion. To me knowingly finishing your opponents mistake is worse than making an honest one yourself.

I may be a little biased though, as I have had the opportunity to provide healthcare to a few of the Afghan interpreters that were lucky enough to evacuate and make it state side.

I work in orthopedics and rehabilitation, so they had all been pretty banged up, missing limbs, or had lower limbs injuries that affected their mobility. But their personal injuries were nothing compared to how much uncertainty they faced about not knowing about the well being of extended family and friends still in Afghanistan, a home they will likely never have the chance to ever visit again.

  • You are so sensitive to immediately tell someone to F off which screams American.

Lol, have you been to East Asia? Getting told to fuck off isn’t exactly a hard thing to provoke in Asia, it’s not something that only happens in America.

You claim yourself as Chinese which means you know best about all Chinese culture right? Which is such a common Chinese xenophobic tactic.

Almost as common as white people explaining Asian culture to Asians on this social media platform. I’ve been lectured to about my own culture by European and Americans who have never left their own countries.

But at the same time you’re so disconnected from your own culture you feel the need to share you and your own parents ethnicity

My dude… Your ethnicity doesn’t change just because your parents migrated to another location. The fact that you can’t recognize stripping someone’s ethnicity away from someone because they weren’t born in there families homeland is just another form of forced assimilation, and is incredibly racist.

Again, utilizing an acronym to other delineate someone from their ethnic heritage is disgusting. Especially considering that I doubt you’ve ever had to deal with navigating the social stratification of being an immigrant.

Accosting a Chinese person for not being Chinese enough is just about the most 4d chess move of racism a white dude can pull off. Congrats.

  • If you have a bunch of questionable 7.62 that’s been in storage maybe a little too long, what’s a better pairing than a rifle that’s half cosmoline?

It hardly ever jams, is easy to clean and maintain, and if you don’t clean it for long enough the pin will stick and then you can slam fire on full auto.

One of my first guns was a Yugo sks that had never been fired. It’s great for learning because you have to do a complete breakdown to clean all the grease from everywhere before you can actually shoot it.

  • Lol, sure…

“Since the conflict began, more than 40,000 people have died, most of whom were Kurdish civilians.[”

“Turkey has depopulated and burned down thousands of Kurdish villages and massacred Kurdish civilians in an attempt to root out PKK militants.”

“The initial reason given by the PKK for this was the oppression of Kurds in Turkey.[81][82] At the time, the use of Kurdish language, dress, folklore, and names were banned in Kurdish-inhabited areas.[83] In an attempt to deny their existence, the Turkish government categorized Kurds as “Mountain Turks” during the 1930s and 1940s.[83][84][85] The words “Kurds”, “Kurdistan”, or “Kurdish” were officially banned by the Turkish government.[86] Following the military coup of 1980, the Kurdish language was officially prohibited in public and private life until 1991.[87] Many who spoke, published, or sang in Kurdish were arrested and imprisoned”

  • I mean, at least that one had some kind of military support and an iota of planning. Seems like Yoon just had a bit of a breakdown, doesn’t seem like people in his own party even knew anything was happening.

South Korea may be a bit more conservative than other western democracies, but the people definitely aren’t afraid to hit the streets and fucking riot if needed. None but a few fucking weirdo new right people really want anything to do with dictatorships anymore.
