  • The very first sentence of the Wiki entry invalidates your argument that EU countries are socialist. They’re not even working toward socialism, because they’re not working toward abolishing private ownership of the means of production. In fact they’ve all been moving in the opposite direction ever since Margaret Thatcher. They’ve been privatizing things that had been public.

In any case, Tankies hate socialism, they see it as nothing but trying to “make capitalism work with regulation” and they strive for abolishment of capitalism entirely.

I think you are confusing “socialism” with “capitalism with social safety nets.”

Socialism is the abolition of private ownership of the means of production, and private ownership of the means of production is what capitalism is. All versions of socialism are anti-capitalist, including communism.

You don’t even have a Wikipedia-level understanding of capitalism, socialism, or communism. Have you even read the first few paragraphs of the Wiki entries for the concepts you pretend to be knowledgeable of?

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.”

And the dude next to me says, “hey i’m not doing anything, i’m a paying customer.” and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, “out. now.” and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.”

"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it’s always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don’t want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

And i was like, ‘oh damn.’ and he said “yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people.”

And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven’t forgotten that at all.

The pure socialists’ ideological anticipations remain untainted by existing practice. They do not explain how the manifold functions of a revolutionary society would be organized, how external attack and internal sabotage would be thwarted, how bureaucracy would be avoided, scarce resources allocated, policy differences settled, priorities set, and production and distribution conducted. Instead, they offer vague statements about how the workers themselves will directly own and control the means of production and will arrive at their own solutions through creative struggle. No surprise then that the pure socialists support every revolution except the ones that succeed.

  • I think @Cowbee@lemmy.ml already covered these, or at least some.

    1. By state, communists mean a system that enforces the will of one class over the others. A stateless society is a synonym for a classless society. It doesn’t mean there’s no government.
    2. No socialist state has achieved communism in the past because it is necessarily a long-term project. You can’t simply go to bed one night in a capitalist state and wake up the next in a classless society. Certainly none will achieve it while imperialist states are still working to deny it. They are in a stage of siege socialism.
    3. “Autocrats.” That’s not how democratic centralism works; that’s how Western capitalist propaganda tells us it works. From a declassified 1955 CIA report:

Even in Stalin’s time there was collective leadership. The Western idea of a dictator within the Communist setup is exaggerated. Misunderstandings on that subject are caused by lack of comprehension of the real nature and organization of the Communist power structure. Stalin, although holding wide powers, was merely the captain of a team and it seems obvious that Khrushchev will be the new captain.

    4. No communist worth their salt ever talks about any sort of utopia. Marxists are materialists, not idealists. This is basic stuff.

  • Only admins can do site bans. What you’re seeing is a hacky/temporary feature of the upcoming Lemmy v19.4, of which lemmy.ml is running the pre-release: when an admin bans someone from the site (temp or otherwise), it also automatically bans them from any community they have ever participated in. Lemmy.ml has always been the “beta” instance for new releases.
