I’m kinda mixed on this. On one hand I want Elon tf out of my country. But on the other hand he’s technically a US citizen and this will set the precedent for stripping US citizens of their status and deporting them for being against the regime and it’s plans.

As much as I’d enjoy the schadenfreude, you’re right. It’s impossible to take a principled stance if you only enforce it when it suits you.

        No.

Musk has plenty of places to go. He could spend the rest of his life in Europe/Australia/Asia and be fine.

The humanitarian concerns surrounding deportation don’t apply to him. He won’t be homeless. He won’t be separated from family. He certainly won’t be roughed up by masked goons.

I have a principled stance and it doesn’t apply to him because he is not in danger of losing his civil rights.

For what it’s worth, from quotes from Kimball Musk, Elon himself, and their associates, it seems as though Elon may have been an illegal immigrant himself at one point. Snopes has collected a lot of the potential info, though they don’t go so far as to reach a conclusion one way or the other.

I think Trump is going to revoke citizenships and deport people anyways. Which is terrible, but I don’t think him doing so to Musk will be a precedent. If anything it might be interesting to see if he gets any pressure to deport Melania too.

Well, ignoring the principle of the matter of denaturalizing and deporting American citizens (whether we don’t like them or not), let’s take a look at his threats to revoke Birth right Citizenship. Combine that with his threats of Denaturalization… and we can see that this provides his DOJ with the ability to go as far back as he wants to revoke citizenship for almost anyone in the US.

You posted memes here about the president? Well, your great grandfather was illegal, so his status has been retroactively revoked, making your entire line non-citizens, so you’re no longer a US citizen, and now we’re deporting you.

I’m not putting it past him. We are witnessing authoritarianism right now. It’s coming. At some point they won’t even give excuses or provide evidence or facts anymore. He’ll merely dictate your expulsion and no one will be able to refuse.

I still don’t agree with it sorry. I don’t like him but it’s not something I’m gonna support. This is something we shouldn’t be touching with a 10 foot pole no matter who it is.

I don’t think this would poses much of a additional threat, as the US legal system already appears to operate largely arbitrarily.

I think it’s highly likely that Trump will pursue, deport, or detain other genuine political opponents who are US citizens on the basis of their heritage anyway. Therefore, I assume that this will be a thing regardless. The only difference with Musk would be that even the super-rich would no longer be safe - but hey, I’m sure that the courts will continue to make exceptions for people with deep pockets anyway.

Even if it’s a thing regardless I’m not gonna support deporting someone even if I don’t like them. If they can do this to Elon openly imagine what they will do to average people with no platform. I want Elon gone but not in this way.

That’s true, of course — I completely agree with you. It’s just that, with all the news from the US that I read every day, I’ve unfortunately become quite pessimistic.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things will turn out alright after all.

I completely get it. I just try to steady myself and look at things from an objective standpoint. People rightfully have strong negavtive feelings about Elon and I’m not trying to take that away from people because I do too. I’m just trying to provide people with a more objective perspective.

    Nope. Nope nope nopenopenope.

Yes, Elon needs to be not in America anymore. Or, at least, behind bars for election interference and tax evasion. But he is a naturalized citizen; you can’t deport citizens, and if he does this to Elon he can do it for everyone.

Not to mention, it’s just the wrong thing to do. You don’t deport people who are here legally. I’d be fine with Trump putting Elon in jail for an actual crime he’s committed (which he can’t do, because he’s committed all of the same crimes) or taxing Elon into the poorhouse (which he can’t do, because he would be hurt by the same tax burden) or seizing the corporations Elon used to break the law (which he can’t do, because he would lose Truth Social). But he can’t deport Elon Musk–terrible human being, serial criminal, American citizen.

The Supreme Court already gave him permission to remove naturalized citizenship. He’s going to use it, but it’ll be on a lot of defenseless poor people, not Elon.

How about instead of deporting him you tax him out the ass. I’m like 5% sure he can count as his own tax bracket

Why does any journalist report this nonsense?

“take a look” is Trump’s cowardice/ignorance catchphrase, it means nothing other than “I am too weak to say yes or no”.

You wanted a king, you got it. The USA will have to drink its Kool aid. This country will never be great again.
