Have they tried cursing while supporting Israel? I’m sure that will work.
I wonder how much of that is due to the impression that Democrats are not really standing up to the thugs in our society (Republicans/conservatives).
Why would they? They are rich, they’re getting a tax cut, they get to keep insider trading. You think they’re gonna stop the gravy train?
You want the billionaires to stop the other billionaires? Lmao. I’m sure they’ll talk about it on the next Epstein express.
Americans: “We took all power away from Democrats and gave it to Republicans. Why aren’t Democrats saving us from what we did?”
Democratic Leadership when they have power: “We can’t afford to give you the healthcare/housing/economy/peace/rights that we promised, which is well below the healthcare/housing/economy/peace/rights that you actually need, sorry. Anyway, we’re off to spend all your tax money on the military, intelligence agencies, and our rich friends. Good luck out there.”
Democratic Leadership afterwards: “Wait, why aren’t you voting for us?”
Americans:
“We didn’t get an improvement from Democrats so we are voting for the Republicans who promised to make things worse.”
“Oh no, Republicans made things worse! Why did Democrats do this to us?”
Well, then why don’t Democrats try to improve things for voters? It’d be a nice change of pace, and people probably wouldn’t vote for Republicans the next time.
Reminder Democrats passed Trumps budget bill.
Yeah, a whole lot of them even still say things like they voted for Donakd “to shake things up”, even as they whine about Democrats not preventing him from doing crazy stuff even they think is stupid and reckless. Well, duh, if you give all the power to the toddler and tie the hands of the adults, bad shit is going to happen, even if it is going to “shake things up”. In other words, a whole lot of people decided to fuck around, and now we all get to “find out” along with these bozos.
🤦♀️
Many of them apparently just assumed Project 2025 was fake. Because he said so I guess? I really do not understand why so many people disregarded it.
I just had someone over the weekend (kinda right-leaning, but not a fan of Taco - I think they claim they voted Libertarian) question the claim that the SAVE Act might disrupt voting for married women that change their names. They said something like “that sounds like the Democratic equivalent of QAnon”.
This very same individual questioned the discussions around Project 2025 last year, dismissing it as sounding like “conspiracy theory”. I told them you can go look it up, download and READ the goddamn thing. It’s no “conspiracy theory”. I got a shrug as a response.
The shit in P2025 is so vile, that people didn’t want to believe it was real.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t really matter what they want to be real or not.
They had four years to hold the last Trump administration accountable and prevent all this.
Democrats in power: “we’re not going to persecute our political rivals because it would set a bad precedent.”
Republicans in power: “we’re going to persecute our political rivals.”
I wish it was just “we’re not going to persecute our political rivals…” rather than “We’re going to actively support our political rivals, and vote for their policies, and build up the systems that they use to persecute us”
I agree but what would have also worked is not voting for Trump. But Americans don’t take responsibility.
So the 75 million of us who voted against Trump are responsible for the Americans who voted for Trump? We were supposed to convince everyone to vote for Dems? Isn’t that the Dems job?
Yeah, this.
Why are people so fucking bad at math
Democrats do not take responsibility to put in the effort to win voters. Stop victim blaming.
I agree, they could have stopped the mad man. But right now there’s a mad man going crazy and they’re blaming everyone else. It’s wild.
-
Well then maybe they should’ve done something while they had that power.
-
The Democrats have eagerly given up what little power they had to obstruct Trump’s agenda.
-
Political power is about a lot more than the power afforded to one by their political office. The Democrats should be out there whipping the sane two thirds of America into action, not sitting on their asses and sucking off Mango Mussolini.
-
Corporate Democrats: “But we re-branded our feckless, pro-corporate messaging to look more like Mandamis?!?”
Worked for Fetterman
Lol, yeah, they can try again. Maybe go full bore.
Did they though? The furthest they got was Harris afaics.
As a non-American I sum it up as this: For the last 50 years (that I am old enough to know about) Democrats don’t have the answer so they are bad. Republicans don’t have the answer but will lie to us every minute of the day to keep us happy so they are good. Then Americans wonder why their country is about to implode.
If this was the case, Republicans would always win and Democrats would always lose.
That’s not the case, though. Recently people just vote for the party that is out of power, because no matter who gets elected everything gets worse. Republicans get elected, everything gets worse, so people vote for Democrats next time. Then the Democrats get elected, everything gets worse, and so people vote for Republicans next time. Over and over until we’re all dead.
Except everything did not get worse under Biden.
Okay, yeah, I was speaking too loosely and not literally every single thing got worse under Biden.
But the majority of voter’s lives got worse, so they either stayed home or voted for Trump. They don’t care if some other metrics improve if their own lives don’t. They could afford less, struggled with bills more, and had to watch a livestreamed genocide.
Things got worse under Biden. Not everything, but enough. The same will happen for Trump. Things will get worse. Maybe not everything, but enough… though who even knows if the electoral system will be intact enough to swing the other way again.
Yeah, everything didn’t get worse, just the basics like housing, healthcare, the economy, the environment, the military, policing…
Not a fan of Biden, but his admin was like the definition of “status quo”.
Which sucks, but that’s a different conversation. It’s unequivocally superior to whatever the fuck is going on right now.
It’s not even that It’s status quo except with some long term investments. Things like the inflation reduction act and the unipartisan infrastructure act (yeah repubs dont get credit for something they had to be dragged into some supporting before they tore it down as soon as they had the power). He also got blocked from forgiving student loans.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not enough, but it is something that’s been rare.
I’d say the “status quo” is getting worse. The system itself makes things worse without intervention. And for a Biden specific failure, the non-prosecution of Republican crimes against democracy haven’t just allowed the criminals to freely continue, but normalized those crimes and enabled the criminals to become even worse.
Sure, but that’s the problem. “status quo” is: Continuously getting worse, while politicians openly lie about how it’s getting better. Voters very clearly don’t want status quo. They want something different, and are clearly ready to burn everything down to get it. Maybe the Democrats should try offering up “Different, in a positive direction” instead.
“I’m stupid so I am gonna vote for the abusive asshole”
So, what are y’all going to vote? Is there a truly mainstream-left alternative? Maybe that third party already exists, maybe somebody saw the sign of the times and started one?
Democratic primary challengers
For state and local offices? If you are in a blue state likely several. But in red States like here no. Worse they are wanting to gerrymander to get rid of the few non Republicans were have here.
At the national level our only hope is primarying Democrats to force a non corporate puppet. There is no math in presidential elections that allow 3rd parties to contribute to anything useful. If we have elections again. We need solidarity whoever the candidate is to keep the fascists from office again. But a constant push to make national leadership irrelevant will still be needed.
I recently heard how hard it is to even establish a party nationwide. Each state has its own rules, and you really do want the party in every state.
My vision was that maybe there was one that went through all that rigmarole.
But don’t get me wrong, come election time I’ll support whatever has the best chance of getting Trump OUT and at least promise to undo ALL the damage.
Part of it is that there shouldn’t be nation wide parties. No single party could ever adequately represent an entire nation. Let alone a single state. And as we can see, none of them do.
When you keep adding more and more layers, town representatives, under county representatives, under district representatives, under state representatives, under federal representatives. Each more divorced from those they’re supposed to represent. Each with more power, power which corrupts more. It’s insanity to think it can be fixed by some new, equally out of touch national force. Or at least that’s the anarchists view.
For my money we need to jettesen the federal and most state level representatives completely. Having groups answerable to their constituents, working with other similarly answerable groups. This is the way. We’ll die waiting for any national party to save us. Get with your neighbors, build the local government you wish to see. Encourage others to do the same. Work against the national parties where you can. Show solidarity with the group most likely to beat the worst candidates, even if they happen to be part of a national party.
I know for instance there are some great local elected green party endorsed representatives in blue states. But the national green party is a joke. They spent the last election attacking the one candidate that stood a chance of beating trump. Knowing full well they couldn’t. Which combined with all the Democrats self inflicted wounds gave trump a clear path to end all democracy. Which makes the national green party worse than the national Democrats in my book.
Eh, it’s not going to matter because no more free elections are happening under Trump.
