I wonder how much better psychiatric institutions could be if they were set up in a manner where patients could go willingly and have their expenses paid while they were there and jobs protected like a pregnancy leave or something. The way our system is now no one goes until they have completely snapped or lost it and I’m sure some of that is likely tied to our lives being overwhelming controlled by money. Like if everyone had mental health leave of at least 30 days a year, and they could go to a place and talk to a therapist/psychologist or other professional for free, have warm meals, a safe place to sleep in a controlled environment to monitor them and help them, maybe the amount of people who actually “lose it” would drop drastically.

Some would say “the number of people in mental institutions have sky rocketed because they are lazy just trying to milk off the system”

But really the number of people who kill themselves, drive a car through crowd of people, or shoot someone… May drop drastically as well.

Healthcare is an investment in a happy/healthy society.
