Why does anyone give a shit about Sinclair and Nextstar?
If they don’t want to air him, then don’t air him.
If people in those communities give a shit, then they can make some phone calls and send some emails.
If they don’t care, then they can watch whatever their abc affiliate wants to air.
Why the fuck do they think they can pressure the vast majority of viewers? Fuck Disney. Keep canceling Disney. This isn’t any kind of victory for free speech.
Why does anyone give a shit about Sinclair and Nextstar?
Because they own roughly 80% of all local tv stations in the US combined and de facto control most of the rest as well. They’re basically the Texas Board of Education of local news if not WORSE.
Why the fuck do they think they can pressure the vast majority of viewers?
Because most if not all of the ABC affiliates you referred to are owned by them. The vast majority have no (legal) alternative
Because Sinclair and Nextstar have local monopolies and defacto veto power over broadcasts? The move from Disney forces Sinclair to take the heat for caving and censorship. (Disney sucks for a LOT of reasons, and they should never have caved to begin with but reversing was the right thing to do)
Sinclair was demanding one, so the fact that Kimmel did not apologize is significant.

Caving in the first place means they cannot be trusted as one of the few remaining media conglomerates.
Boycott, divest, they will do it again.
