Or what about dealing with depression? “You just need to stop thinking about those things. Be happy!” 👍

My go to response is, “Holy shit, why did I never think of that? I wish I had talked to you instead of spending money on a therapist! Who knew curing clinical depression could be so easy?!”

You would think someone with ARFID would want to gain weight. Or am I misunderstanding what symptoms are associated with that?

I think I saw a thing once where someone with ARFID would literally only eat undercooked looking french fries.

I can understand if the restriction is something unhealthy, and nothing stopping quantity, I can see this scenario happening

ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (for those who don’t know)) means that a lot of food triggers negative reactions. It is a spectrum though, reactions vary, triggers vary, etc. For me, a lot of vegetables, fruits etc make me not want to eat them, but unhealthy foods like fries, nuggets, pasta, burgers, etc are absolutely fine.

I really recommend it if you can get it. My gf had similar problems for many years and is now essentially cured after being referred by her doctor to a centre for eating disorders using CBT.

I’m not. Trying to get away from sugary drinks for the I don’t know how manyth time, because water is boring and diet drinks usually taste like cancer (they got better though).

Have you tried getting into tea? There are so many tasty blends out there, it’s how I kicked my soda addiction. Well, until I could enjoy unsweetened coffee.

I managed to make the jump to 7-up free from Coke. I do quite enjoy it now.

You can also try those dilute drinks, to liven up water.

🫤 Sorry to hear that, friend.

So like, is water actually unpleasant to drink for you, or can you drink it but you’d rather have the sugar stuff? Wondering about how you phrased it as “boring”.

Other stuff I’m curious about, to educate myself:

            1. What stage of life are you in, like past your 20s? Midlife? Retirement?
            2. What part of the world do you live in? Cardinal direction of continent perhaps?

Share whatever parts you feel comfortable with! 😁

Water is just boring, gives me nothing, which leads to me not drinking and ending up dehydrated.

Honestly, I don’t want to go into details. I didn’t create and post this meme to get help or tips (partly because my situation is very complex and I don’t want to explain it extensively), I just did because the comparison came to my mind and I wanted to share it. Also coping a little.

Perfectly understandable, although I’m not trying to give help or tips. (I can’t, I know nothing about this disorder. 😓) I was trying to understand it better. But yeah, totally fine, let’s not get into it if you don’t feel like it. 👌

I’m glad you shared what you did so far. I learned about this issue today, so that was something you gave to me, so thank you for that.

                Have a better 2026 than 2025!

Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi back in the 820’s C.E. knew calculations took a well defined process of reduction and balancing to solve, not just the initial data. You can’t bake a quiche without a recipe even if you have the ingredients.
