I grew up in the Middle East and immigrated to Canada. The problems of the US were not 100% obvious to me from there.
Honestly, Trump is either incredibly stupid or destroying everything is his goal.
Theee things: He’s absolutely stupid. He’s a self-centered narcissist. He’s immune to consequences.
The confluence of the two and the power he has lets him do a lot of self-serving…well, everything. From money to bullying to whatever.
And his position protects him from any consequences. Which lets him keep doing everything he’s been doing.
What is incredible is that he has been doing and saying heinous shit his whole life and his history of business failure was always still cast as success for some reason.
Like he has been raping people his whole life, and he probably personally threw that baby in lake Michigan, things that are punishable by life in prison or the death penalty in some places. Yet he evaded everything.
Even in the era he was doing this, the coked up 80s, lots of people went to jail for fraud and crap and the shit he was doing. The fact that such a high profile person like him evaded it still is just incredible.
The only answer is that the people that like him figure his shitty behavior supports their shitty behavior. And they’re not wrong.
And that is. How he got on the apprentice is because when they were looking for successful CEOs to star in the show they couldn’t find them. Because CEOs that are good at their jobs are generally too busy running their companies to be on some dumb reality show. Trump? He basically had an open schedule. All his time was devoted to the show. He didn’t have much else going on at the time.
And the producer now is publicly apologizing for this.
I read the article. He not only singlehandedly rehabilitated his ailing image (he was seen as a washed up relic by that point) but the writing and the entire crew did their best to make him look like a competent leader and manager and ‘America’s boss’.
His ego and his pocketbook are all that matters. Arguably all that ever has. Any time you think “he did what?” consider who is paying him or stroking his ego. That’s all it is.
New ballroom? Ego. Stripping environmental protection? Pocketbook. Invade Venezuela? Pocketbook. Ice Gestapo? Ego. He doesn’t care anything for America. He cares for the slice that lets him line his pockets and feel like a big strong boy. There is no heart, there is no morals, it’s him, his ego, and the wallet he sits on.

I just moved to New Zealand at the beginning of the year. The thing I was most struck by immediately after landing was how good the air smells outside. And I was at the Auckland Airport!
That and the quality of the eggs immediately radicalized me. They’ve taken so much from us.
For me its how large and healthy random animals look in other countries outside America. Like even the squirrels and birds in America look like they are struggling in comparison.

Wow, that’s something I haven’t thought to look at. I did notice that I haven’t seen an unhappy dog in the couple of weeks I’ve been here. I’ve seen a lot of dogs, and some shy ones, but not really any anxious or angry dogs. That hit me out of the blue a couple days ago.

Now, before I tell you this, you should know that this was a carton of the cheapest eggs I could find at a random Pak ‘n’ Save in Auckland. So this isn’t some boutique farmers market thing. And it’s happened twice, with two different brands, so it wasn’t a fluke.
So the first thing I noticed was the color of the yolk. In the US, I’m used to a sort of medium canary yellow color; but when I cracked the first one into a bowl, I audibly said “oh!” because that yolk was practically orange. It was such a rich yellow texture. I’ve seen something close to that in a hen-fresh egg in the States, but even that was a little duller in color than this.
I only scrambled them that first time. And I didn’t even do a particularly good job; didn’t use a whisk, probably didn’t use the right ratio of milk to egg, I got distracted so I wasn’t paying attention to how long they cooked, and I didn’t have the right seasonings. But with just salt and pepper, those were the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever eaten in my life. On a random Saturday, and by my own hand! They had this creamy texture, it was nowhere near rubbery, and it had this flavor to it that I can’t describe really. I have come to discover that that’s the true flavor of a fresh egg. I had never really tasted the flavor of egg before.
The second time, I made sunny side up eggs for my father in law. I’ve never gotten sunny side up to even kind of work, but this time…well, I kind of broke the yolk a little bit, but…anyway, I’m not a great cook. But he agreed that they were really good.
Then I had them boiled. They were slightly overdone, but I barely needed salt or pepper.
I’m looking forward to eating eggs now. We’ve even gotten some of our kids to eat them. They’re just so much better than the stuff I picked up at home.

The purpose of a bill is what it does. This weakens environmental regulations and protections for humans. Allowing companies to pollute and pay their executives more. It was always the goal.
