    And now a white man. But more important than race or gender I think people care more because they were US citizens and were murdered in broad daylight. Their murder and rape of immigrants is being done behind closed doors. Sure a story leaks out here and there but we lack the visceral impact of a video.

      That’s one of the details in today’s coverage that kept getting under my skin: identifying them as citizens as if that makes it worse.

      The already egregious violations of multiple civil rights taking place up to and including the murder are the story, not the victim’s immigration status.

      If they were not a citizen they are still entitled to all civil rights granted by our constitution; the Bill of Rights makes no mention of citizenship as a condition for the rights enumerated therein nor does the word “citizen” even appear in the text.

      If they are allowed to take away one person’s rights, all of ours are forfeit.
