Ok, so there is real potential for PF to become known for it’s porn. That was not the plan

For a while, Tesseract was the most used frontend for lemmynsfw so, lol, I felt that.

480 is that that many but at its peak lemmynsfw had more users than PieFed.social does now. Let’s see what next week brings.

I mean, it takes all kinds to make an internet ecosystem! Where would we be if not for our bold predecessors, trading blurry pics of penises on usenet?

I just hope the instance’s admins are ready for the influx of folk.

Does Piefed have a NSFW tag like Lemmy does?

Other than that, what “nsfw features” would a platform like Piefed need that it wouldn’t need for SFW content? Serious question, I don’t know. (In fact, my instance blocks lemmynsfw.)

It’s a little known fact that we actually previously had an NSFW piefed instance for a week or two to do testing. Some of the features that were included to help instances like that were the disclaimer screen that comes up before any content page loads (this site has NSFW content…etc.). Also, I know some code was added to make some common NSFW hosting sites work better (as an example, there is some special code to deal with redgifs embeds).

The last thing that comes to mind is to allow admins to specify countries for which NSFW content is blocked (based on IP address). This was added in response to admins wanting to deal with content restrictions like the UK have and are sadly becoming more common across the globe.

There is an environment variable, ‘CONTENT_WARNING’, which if set, changes quite a few things. For starters, it displays that content warning. But also:

          • New accounts have ‘show nsfw’ ENABLED rather than disabled.
          • When browsing anonymously, nsfw content is shown rather than hidden.
          • When creating a new community the ‘publicize on [email protected]’ checkbox is NOT ticked (that’s new, sorry about earlier folks)
          • NSFW communities are listed in the main communities list even when browsing it anonymously.

Also when making that I came up with this - https://piefed.social/post/1124924

No idea about piefed but the worst part for me about this instance swap is that I have to go visit dozens of different communities and view the banners to block them, because Lemmy doesn’t have a dropdown for that like it has for “block user”. It applies blur to the posts, but unfortunately not banners, so I either have to block the entire instance or visit each community to block it.

I don’t need to see some of the stuff people enjoy to know that it is not for me. Plus the sheer quantity of possible combinations for anal gape creampie yiff hentai is overwhelming, before even considering further granularity by anime franchise or whatever else.

I was considering changing instance anyway so maybe this is just convenient timing.

In lemmy.world/settings, click on ‘Blocks’, then look for the instance blocking thing. Does that help?

Thanks, I did know about the instance block, but I don’t actually want to block all of the communities on the instance - just a few dozen of them. It wasn’t even a sizable percentage of the instance, when it existed.

i don’t know how to really say this but 480 users a month is less users than dead internet forums, I don’t know if counting numbers this tiny is a productive use of ones time or something to even care about
