House Republicans have voted down an effort to block immigration enforcers from using federal resources to detain or deport U.S. citizens.
During a House Judiciary Committee meeting on Wednesday, Democrats tabled amendments to a sweeping budget bill that President Donald Trump has dubbed “one big, beautiful bill.”
One amendment introduced by Representative Pramila Jayapal, the Democrat from Washington state, sought to make clear Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) cannot detain or deport U.S. citizens under any circumstances. GOP lawmakers killed that amendment.

The main message from Trump supporters is they don’t regret anything even if they suffer, long as the right people get hurt. It is impossible to have meaningful society built with people like that as a collective.
Words matter. They are not deporting citizens. They are kidnapping and quite possibly murdering. It’s a crime. Acknowledge this for the crime that it is. Call it human trafficking. But deporting it is not.
Another question is why isn’t an active mass violation of human rights (what is a crime in any other industrialized nation) being responded to by the Democrats.
If your representative is Republican, assure that by their refusal to support such a law they are committing a massive wrongdoing against humanity.
If your representative is Democrat, remind them that without immediately responding to this with action and refusal to engage in any other administrative duty, they are complicit.
The future is watching closely the present moment in time, and will not be kind to those who could have acted and yet stood idly by.
At least the line is clearly visible now. It’s just us vs them.

True, they could push a lot harder to the left. But let’s be realistic, if they did they would lose at the polls because the US is like 75% center or right.
Most Americans are, as you estimate, center-to-right, but that’s because America has no political party of the left, so lefty ideas are simply unknown to 90% of us. When genuine leftyism is spoken aloud by candidates who actually believe what they’re saying — AOC or Sanders and very few others — it’s very nearly undefeated.

Which is odd because the democratic party opposes progressives.
The ONLY reason that people beliwvebwe are a Center Right nation is because the Conservative Propaganda Machine has been spewing that for decades, with no evidence of it, and with no counter message from the Democrats. So Democrats have come to believe the propaganda, and react accordingly, additionally motivated to believe by their wealthy donors.
It they decided to actually support and promote progressive ideas, like tax reform, Medicare 4 All, student loan forgiveness, housing protection, unions, etc., they’d find a lot of support from a Center Left population.
I keep seeing so many people who claim to be on the left saying Democrats could win if they just supported us. Which sounds great. But then one has to wonder. Have we shown them that? We need to be the ones to bring the fight to the democrats. We’ve passively and complacently let National parties consolidate power for Generations now. And yet we pretend to be confused of when they don’t represent us for some reason.
As someone reasonably autistic that has to mask a significant amount to get through the day. I’m not candidate material. But I would I.T. the fuck out of shit for a local campaign willing to show local and National Democrats how to fight.

You don’t have to in state or local elections. I’ve always told people to vote for whoever stands the best chance of winning no matter what party they’re from as long as they keep the fascist out. But when it comes to National presidential elections mathematically you have to. It’s just a fact.

It does not matter how many times progressives hold their noses and vote republican-lite like you want. The party will NEVER look at their loyalty and decide to listen to them. NOT EVER. The entire “just vote and we’ll listen, promise” thing has always been a filthy lie.
However, democrats seem willing to move to the right for absolutely no gain because the republicans whose votes they seek would rather vote for republicans. republicans don’t need to patiently vote for people who hate them for decades for a false promise that the party will listen.
