I’m sure this was a difficult choice.

It’s basically this, and hope that it buys enough goodwill with Trump to let you take over the government there, or you keep it and let the US operate the government as a puppet state.

Ultimately, if this pays off, the medal is a pretty cheap price to pay all things considered

The medal doesn’t even mean anything. It’s like buying a purple heart at an auction; doesn’t make you a veteran. Of course, Trump would never understand that.

Be a puppet state either way, she just wants to signal that she’d be an enthusiastic puppet.

Her entire legitimacy at this point consists of being recognized by Western organizations and now grovelling to a hostile foreign power. She’d be the worst type of puppet.

The venezuelan military is the de facto ruler since they made that deal to give up maduro and stand down.

Not so sure about that - a whole bunch of Vzlan military were killed in the kidnapping and bombing (US bombed military sites in Caracas) and had that new powerful sound cannon blasted at them that had them instantly debilitated & bleeding from the nose and ears.

The military would have told them about the loyalist factions obviously. The cubans. And whatever handful of other groups weren’t in on it. Not a chance the US could have pulled that off with a mobilized venzuelan military in the most protected places in the country. Not a chance they would have attempted it. They could have killed him easy enough, flying helicoptors in to grab him, not a chance.

        I’m not so sure

Assuming she is appointed as the leader of the country, she can use that position to save people from callous deaths that would otherwise happen with a full US occupation.

It’s a harm reduction measure, rather than a path to victory
