Family members say the man killed by a U.S. Border Patrol officer in Minneapolis on Saturday was an intensive care nurse at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital who cared deeply about people and was upset by Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in his city.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed getting in adventures with Joule, his beloved Catahoula Leopard dog who also recently died. He had participated in protests following the killing of Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs officer on Jan. 7.
Pretti was a U.S. citizen, born in Illinois. Like Good, court records showed he had no criminal record and his family said he had never had any interactions with law enforcement beyond a handful of traffic tickets.
In a recent conversation with their son, his parents, who live in Colorado, told him to be careful when protesting.

Your experience with people calling out Democrats in your first post may have given you the wrong impression - Lemmy doesn’t have much of a right wing problem, but it does have an overabundance of leftists. You’ll hear a lot of similar “fuck liberals” comments from them, but from the other end of the spectrum. You’ll also find a lot of tankies here - leftists that unfailingly support violent, authoritarian regimes, mostly because they’re a country other then the US or EU.
In short, you’ll find the political inclinations of users here to be (possibly confusingly) diverse, if you stick around.
Great. Sounds interesting to me. Thank you!
Right wing misinformation on Lemmy…? But not Reddit?
Edit; your account is 8 hours old…
Yeah I literally just moved here for the reason I expressed.
I’m not a damn bot.
I didn’t accuse you of being a bot.
But you did ignore my point, which is that reddit is crawling with right wing bullshit and Lemmy isn’t at all, but it seems like you implied Lemmy has a lot compared to reddit. Which is bizarre. Especially since you made an account hours ago, you wouldn’t have had time to see much if any right wing bullshit.
Sorry I must have not made myself clear at all.
I meant Reddit is crawling with them.
I have no idea about Lemmy as I’ve been here less than a day, as you said, but it seems normal to me. How Reddit was pre-2016.
Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.
I’m just going to play it safe and never talk about it again on here from now on.
Erm, what? If you’ve seen evidence of right wing trolls you should absolutely talk about it and mention specifics. Thing is, I still don’t know if you saw such evidence. You’re being cagey about it.
I have not seen any on here. Only on Reddit.
I do not understand how this has been misconstrued. I can’t look at my original comment as it was removed but let me be clear. I have not seen any on here. At all. I never meant to say I had. There has been some confusion somewhere.
There were recent posts in instances’ meta about a bot wave. Reporting them may help.
