>>This video’s first part<< is his pitch for the website if you want to hear it from him directly.

But basically he wants to make a website that is fully ad-free, truly independant and community-funded, not funded by publishers or venture capital. With pieces written not by AI bots but actual people that don’t need to pander to SEO in their titles or articles.

Love skillup and their cover ups! I watch all their stuff so for me this was easy to justify support for. Also a very clean website goddamn! Excited to see how this goes.

Been following the guy on youtube for a while and I love the initiative, but damn, I find it hard to justify 10€ a month for just a single dedicated gaming publication. I expect I will support them every few months or so, but yeah, to me 100€/year seems too hefty.

Also what worries me is that this model has been tried, before the days of ad-supported web, and didn’t fare so well, so why would it work now?

Yeah, that’s pretty expensive ngl. It would be nice if they introduced a lower tier 🤔

so why would it work now?

From what he says, it seems that he is counting on the fact that he already has an audience from his youtube channel, and that he won’t have to start from nothing.

It’s also the only model that’s survived after the ad-supported web. If you’re not IGN, this is the only way games media works.
